Mormugao port to restart container operations after seven years
Mormugao Port Authority will relaunch container operations in late November 2025 after a seven-year pause, marking a key boost for Goa’s maritime and logistics sector. The SCI Mumbai, operated by the Shipping Corporation of India as the new feeder vessel, will make its maiden call on November 20, reopening container traffic. Exporters expect reduced logistics costs and faster transit times, while industry experts say the revival could position Mormugao as a strategic logistics hub and attract more shipping lines to Goa’s west coast.

IWAI advances inland water transport with PPP operations at Kalughat & Haldia Terminals
The Inland Waterways Authority of India has achieved major progress under the Jal Marg Vikas Project with two key developments on National Waterway-1. The Kalughat Intermodal Terminal in Bihar has been handed over to SAPL for PPP-based operations, ensuring professionally managed, revenue-sharing terminal services. Simultaneously, cargo operations have begun at the Haldia Multi-Modal Terminal in West Bengal with GBFS from Tata Steel bound for Assam. Together, these milestones boost sustainable, efficient inland water transport and strengthen India’s multimodal logistics connectivity.

India Maritime Week 2025: ₹12 lakh cr MoUs signed for maritime growth
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that over 600 MoUs worth ₹12 lakh crore were signed during India Maritime Week 2025, reflecting the government’s strong focus on expanding India’s maritime economy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The MoUs span sectors such as port development, shipbuilding, container manufacturing, sustainability, and technology. About 60% of earlier MoUs worth ₹8.5 lakh crore have already seen investment progress. Nearly ₹40,000 crore in MoUs were signed for inland waterways, aligning with India’s Maritime Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 goals.

India is expanding its inland ship repair and maintenance network to boost inland water transport and reduce reliance on coastal or foreign services. Under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, the government aims to make inland waterways key to economic growth. New Ship Repair Facilities at Patna, Varanasi, and under construction at Pandu will cut costs, create jobs, and support MSMEs. Managed by IWAI, these eco-friendly SRFs feature modern dry docks and workshops, strengthening India’s self-reliant, sustainable, and globally competitive maritime ecosystem.

India Maritime Week 2025 from Oct 27: Fadnavis urges Centre to establish permanent hub for maritime development in Mumbai
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged the Centre to establish a permanent maritime development centre in Mumbai to strengthen India’s maritime sector. Reviewing preparations for India Maritime Week 2025, scheduled from October 27–31 at NESCO, Goregaon, he said the initiative would boost Maharashtra’s global profile and attract major investments. The event, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and attended by PM Modi, will host over 100 countries and 500 exhibitors, showcasing Mumbai’s growing role in India’s maritime and economic development.
