7 Crew Members Killed By Co-Worker Frustrated Over Unpaid Wages & Lack of Leave

A nationwide strike by shipping workers began after seven crew members were killed aboard the MV Al-Bakhera on the Meghna River in Bangladesh. The tragic incident occurred on December 23, 2024, when a crew member, angry over unpaid wages, poisoned the ship's master and murdered others to cover up his actions. The workers are demanding justice and Tk 20 lakh compensation for the victims' families. The strike, organized by the Bangladesh Water Transport Workers Federation, ended after a meeting with the Department of Shipping, with assurances for compensation and safety improvements.
