The Vadhavan greenfield port, under construction near Dahanu in Maharashtra, is set to double India’s container trade upon completion by 2034. According to Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Chairman of JNPA, the port will rank among the top 10 globally. With four terminals set to be operational by 2029 and five more by 2034, the port will significantly boost India’s container capacity. Wagh called it a "game changer" for the nation and region, marking a major milestone in India’s maritime infrastructure development since its conceptualization in the early '90s.

The Container Corporation of India, in partnership with Indian Railways and Chennai Port Authority, launched the inaugural TVS Go Green Express container train on November 28. Loaded with TVS Motor Company’s Direct Port Entry export containers, the train marks a significant step in streamlining logistics. DPE allows direct delivery to the port, bypassing the Container Freight Station. This initiative speeds up container transport between Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and Bangalore, while Concor’s LNG trucks enhance first and last-mile connectivity, supporting green logistics and cost-effective transportation.

VIMC, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in India, hosted a workshop on the potential of India’s port system, maritime transport, and logistics. This event provided VIMC with an opportunity to explore ways to expand its market share in India, the world's fifth-largest economy. With India’s foreign trade turnover projected to reach $2 trillion by 2030, VIMC plans to build "Vietnam House" logistics facilities in India, enhancing supply chains and promoting bilateral trade. The project aims to improve import-export industries and strengthen ties between the two nations.

Oman’s Sohar Port and Freezone has reported strong results for the first nine months of 2024, highlighting its growing role in the country’s economy. Foreign Direct Investment surged past $4 billion, driven by 12 new agreements, including Marsa LNG bunkering and a polysilicon factory by United Solar Holdings. Cargo operations showed robust growth, with container handling up by 21%, general cargo by 45%, and ship-to-ship transfers rising by 30%. The Freezone’s expansion continues, with 85% of Phase 1 occupied and Phase 2 seeing strong commitment, alongside an 8.61% increase in warehouse utilization.

The Bangladesh Ministry of Shipping has introduced a policy for managing the transportation of goods via inland water routes using lighter vessels. The new policy establishes the Bangladesh Water Transport Coordination Cell, which will handle the allocation and scheduling of these vessels. Only approved, registered vessels, including coastal ships authorized for bay crossings, will be allowed to transport cargo. A monitoring committee will oversee operations. The policy also grants factories and companies the ability to transport their own cargo without BWTCC scheduling. Violations may result in penalties or suspension of certifications.
